Production of modifiers

PRODUCTION OF VARIOUS TYPES OF MODIFIERS

Modifiers are next-generation polymer fillers (after chalk compounds). They are a multi-component additive, in which each component solves its own task of optimizing the production process.

Modifiers in their structure and action can be compared to a multivitamin complex, which includes specially selected various vitamins and minerals. The effect of using a modifier (as well as a multivitamin complex) is due to the action of each component, and in addition, the effects of individual components can complement and strengthen each other (synergistic effect).

Types of modifiers for polymers

Antioxidants

Like all organic materials, polymers are susceptible to oxidation. This leads to changes in the viscosity, color, fragility of products and deterioration of physical and mechanical characteristics. Oxidation occurs at every stage of the existence of the polymer material – during its production and storage, during processing into products and subsequent use. Oxidation is also called destruction or aging. Usually, thermomechanical (in the process of processing) and thermooxidative (operation of the product) destruction of the polymer material is separated.

Antioxidants are divided into 2 large groups – primary (protecting finished products during the entire service life) and secondary (protecting the polymer during processing into products).

– Light stabilizers

Light stabilizers are additives of various structures introduced into polymer products that are operated under the direct degrading effect of solar radiation (more precisely, the UV component of the spectrum), and serve to prevent destruction for a certain time, for which the operation of a particular product was calculated.

In the absence of light stabilizers, as well as under the combined action of other atmospheric factors, such as oxygen in the surrounding air and water, an intensive process of oxidation of the polymer material occurs, leading to its degradation.

– Dehumidifying modifier

Designed to neutralize moisture in the production of products made of primary and secondary polymer, as well as compositions based on it: compounding, wood-composite materials. It allows you to stabilize the extrusion process, to obtain sufficiently high-quality products from raw materials with high humidity, especially in seasonality with high humidity.

– Antiblock and antislip

Designed to reduce the ability of polymer films to stick together. The presence of anti-block in the film improves the fixation of the print, increases the strength of the weld.
